Wednesday, May 11th, 2005 05:09 pmbeing in an airplane when it takes off and lands is so much fun. taking off... accelerating, faster, faster, so fast! much faster than all those race cars, even, maybe? and then leaving the ground, the rumbling suddenly gone, free from the earth, floating, flying; tilting upwards, up up into the sky and all the big things on the ground become small and curious-looking. breaking through the clouds, to see the sun... to see the clouds from up above instead of from below; lit up by light instead of blocking it. and in cloud-free areas, seeing the tiny cars in the parking lots below all sparkling...
landing; falling down thru the air, weightless moments; giddy deceleration; noise; down and down and closer and closer to the runway, flying above it, then boom, the touchdown and the rumbling shrieking of the brakes and wingflaps against the air, braking, powerful, speed, velocity, friction, slowing, stopping...
When my dad called out my name at the airport, I looked at him and didn't recognize him at first. Eh? Is this him? Looking closer, I suddenly recognize him... he looks the same, but apparently different, too.
